The purpose of the Nittany Valley Running Club is to establish a sound, continuing program of youth and adult fitness, to promote development and competition for all age groups, and to conscientiously prepare athletes for competition.

The Wahoo Beginners group wants to encourage beginners to start running, stick with it, set some goals, and have fun all the while. The runs are for all-comers and all abilitouties, whether you're a total novice or a long time runner that wants a non-competitive workout with a great group of people! Our group got its name when Jerry, our group leader, mistakenly referred to the Yahoo Discussion Group as the "Wahoo Group!" If you've always wanted to start a jogging program with a little direction, now is your chance. All you've got to do is show up!
We have a regular workout every Tuesday evening at various locations around State College from April through October. Our next workout is: Waiting for google calendar.... Hope to see you there!
During the Winter we're a bit less formal, but we still meet. Checkout the full schedule, or the next few weeks on the calendar below to see what our future workouts are and where we're meeting.
The group also meets other days of the week. These runs are usually arranged and/or announced on the Wahoo discussion group and posted on the calendar. They are of various lengths and paces, depending on who shows up, but no one is left behind! Often the faster runners will loop back to keep the group together.
Jerry Steffy is our group leader and coach. If you have any questions about the runs, or if you'd like to help Jerry with the runs, contact him at run2k1@juno.com.
The various Club email Discussion Groups have been exhibiting some squirrelly behavior lately, with very old emails suddenly popping up in the queue. This is causing a bit of confusion. To clarify, tonight's Beginner Group Run starts from Rec Hall at 6 PM.Meet on the steps of Rec Hall at Burrowes and Curtin.

Hi All,
Pam Scott will be hosting our Tuesday night workout from her house for a hill workout and then have Martha Michael come over and talk to the group about the Pose Method. The plan is to meet at Pam's house and start as close to 6 PM as possible. Then people can come back to Pam's for a little snack (pizza and such) and then stay if they want to listen to Martha. So, it will be a short (in time) hill workout, food, and seminar at Pam's place. All in the group welcome. Pam's
address is: 124 Peach Court, Lemont. To get good directions I recommend using Google Maps. Trust me, you
don't want me giving out directions. Lol..........
Hope you can come!

Wahoo Beginners Running Group: The Not-So-Lazy Daves Of Summer

After a quick pep talk from Jerry Steffy, the Wahoo group
started their workout at 6PM at the State College HS Track. The group completed
8 x 400m starting every 3 minutes with a half-mile warm-up and cool-down. We
had 9 members in attendance: Pam Scott, Amy Mensch, Michelle Christiansen, the
“3” Daves again (Dave Lloyd, Dave Degroote and David Agler), Bridget O’Meara,
Liz Troisi, and newbie Yash Tummala. The Wahoo group turned out not to be a
bunch of lazy yahoos as times ranged from 1:07 to 2 minutes and a number of the
members supplemented track work with a pre- and post-run bike and/or swim. Next
week, we will meet at the S.C. high school track for some 800s.

Even
without their fearless leader Jerry Steffy, the Wahoo group met last night at
6PM at the Boalsburg Military Museum for their workout. Dave Lloyd and Liz
Troisi suggested 4 x 800m starting every 6 minutes with a half-mile warm-up and
cool-down. Also in attendance were two more Daves (David Agler and David
DeGroote), second-time-out Amy
Mensch, brightly-dressed Fernand Seuchie, and Jennifer Dahlke who
returned after her grueling first encounter with the Wahoo group. Next week, we
will meet at the S.C. high school north parking lot for a run to Walnut Springs
Park.
