Wahoo Beginners Group Print E-mail

The Wahoo Beginners group wants to encourage beginners to start running, stick with it, set some goals, and have fun all the while.  The runs are for all-comers and all abilities, whether you're a total novice or a long time runner that wants a non-competitive workout with a great group of people!  Our group got its name when Jerry, our group leader, mistakenly referred to the Yahoo Discussion Group as the "Wahoo Group!" If you've always wanted to start a jogging program with a little direction, now is your chance.  All you've got to do is show up!

We have a regular workout every Tuesday evening at various locations around State College from April through October.  During the Winter we're a bit less formal, but we still meet.  Checkout the schedule, or the Event Calendar to see what the next workout is and where we're meeting.

The group also meets other days of the week.  These runs are usually arranged and/or announced on the Wahoo discussion group and posted on the Event Calendar.  They are of various lengths and paces, depending on who shows up, but no one is left behind!  Often the faster runners will loop back to keep the group together.

Jerry Steffy is our group leader and coach.  If you have any questions about the runs, or if you'd like to help Jerry with the runs, contact him at run2k1@juno.com.

Indians invade Rec Hall Print E-mail

Rec Hall didn't know what was going on Tuesday evening.  There were sounds of about a thousand feet rumbling around the track.  No, it wasn't thunder nor the sounds of wild buffalo.  It was "Jerry's Tribe" running their 30 minute Indians workout on the track!  Our Indians in attendance were Brian, Dave, Michelle, Jessica, Kate, Mike & Denise that was  running like the wind around the track. They all did a great job running the 30 minutes non stop just so that they would make Chief Jerry very proud  of his warriors.

Sept 23rd - 5-miler for fun Print E-mail

Only a few of us hard core runners showed up for the "long run" from Welch Pool. Dave DeGroote, Pam Scott, Mike Weismiller, Kate Ryan, Vicki Summers and Sarah Reinhart left Welch Pool for a 5.12 mile run (according to runningmap.com). The vets were kind enough to let Vicki lead the run, making her feel important, but after about 3 miles, as Kate put it, Dave and Pam were "done with us" and took off.  However, after the turn onto Westerly Parkway, Mike and Sarah managed to catch the gabbing duo...Pam explained that "they tell you not to chatter!" and that's why she got caught. Kate and Vicki weren't too far behind, but were the only ones that ran the whole route! Good for us! :o)

The sky was overcast with a slight breeze when everyone met at Spring Creek Park for Tuesday's workout. There was a small group of runners who came to do a easy 45 minute run out & back on the bike path from the park.  We had in attendance Kate Ryan, Jessica Savrock, Jen ? (friend of Jessica's), Michelle Christensen, Michael Weismiller, Dave DeGroote and Denise Weaver.  Dave DeGroote led the group on the out & back up towards Slab Cabin Park.  Everyone did such a awesome job!  Way to go guys!!

See you for next week's workout at Welch Pool to do INDIANS!
