PSU Multi-Sport Facility Staggers |

courtesy of Marty Mazur and Ken Forstmeier The chart below gives the number of laps you need to run to get certain distances in each lane on Penn State's Multi-Sport Facility/Horace Ashenfelter III indoor track (between the Bryce Jordan Center and the outdoor track). They are based on a 42 inch lane width. The length of stagger per lap per lane is 2*pi*(42in) = 263.9 in ~ 22 ft. As an example, if you want to run 800 meters in lane 5, you need to run 3.53 laps, so your stagger is just under half a lap. You start just before the half-lap mark, run to the finish line, and then do 3 more laps to get your 800 meters. NOTE: Lane 6 on the indoor track is almost exactly the same length as the jogging track above the bleachers in Rec Hall: about 6.85 laps per mile. | Lane | 200m | 400m | 600m | 800m | 1000m | 1200m | 1400m | 1600m | | 1 | 1.00 | 2.00 | 3.00 | 4.00 | 5.00 | 6.00 | 7.00 | 8.00 | | 2 | 0.97 | 1.94 | 2.90 | 3.87 | 4.84 | 5.81 | 6.77 | 7.74 | | 3 | 0.94 | 1.87 | 2.81 | 3.75 | 4.69 | 5.62 | 6.56 | 7.50 | | 4 | 0.91 | 1.82 | 2.73 | 3.63 | 4.54 | 5.45 | 6.36 | 7.27 | | 5 | 0.88 | 1.76 | 2.65 | 3.53 | 4.41 | 5.29 | 6.17 | 7.05 | | 6 | 0.86 | 1.71 | 2.57 | 3.43 | 4.28 | 5.14 | 5.99 | 6.85 | Note: The North American Race Walking Association has a nice online calculator for any length track and width of lane.
