CVIM Challenge Team
The Nittany Valley Running Club CVIM Challenge Team is a team of NVRC runners who raise funds for Centre Volunteers in Medicine. CVIM is a local community health resource center that provides medical care, dental care, case management, and medication assistance to our local neighboring residents without health insurance. Challenge Team participants help by running a race, from 5K to half-marathon to marathon or even ultramarathon, and soliciting donations for CVIM from friends, relatives, and colleagues, with the race they are running as a focus of their fundraising.
Marathoners For Medicine, which was what the Challenge Team was called until a few years ago, started in 2003 when John Domico decided to raise funds for CVIM as part of his running of the Boston Marathon. The next year, he had several companions and the Marathoners For Medicine grew since then. The CVIM Challenge Team has raised close to a million dollars for CVIM over the years.
If you are planning to run a long Spring race and would like your effort to benefit an excellent local charity, sign up for the CVIM Challenge Team. Runners pay their race expenses and then solicit funds from people they know via email, social media, and though a fundraising page that is set up for them on the CVIM web site. CVIM depends on donations, and any amount that a Team runner raises by being part of the team goes directly to CVIM.
The Challenge Team has a kick-off potluck and media day every year. Team members often go in groups to Boston, Pittsburgh, the Poconos, and several other marathons and half-marathons, as well as ultramarathons, trail races, and other events. Really, any race that's "long for you", even a 5K, can serve as a focus.
For those not running a face, but who would still like to donate to CVIM in the name of the the CVIM Challenge Team team or an individual runner, visit the CVIM Challenge Team page at CVIM.
