Minutes of the June 2, 2015 Meeting of the NVRC
Attendance: Marty Mazur, Marty Klanchar, Dave Eggler, Amy Blake, Tara Murray, Cheryl Capone
Self Defense Workshop. Monarch Martial Arts needed to reschedule at the last minute. Tara polled registrants but couldn't get enough consensus on a new date and so will cancel the workshop. Cheryl suggested offering a transfer to the strength training workshop as an alternative to a refund. One registrant asked for a refund of her NVRC membership. We will offer a refund on the membership but not the service fee.
Boalsburg Memorial Day Race. The race was operated by Left Right Repeat.
Arts Fest Races. Dave will check in with race director Dana Gingerich.
Marty Mazur introduced two new members, Alfredo and Renee.
Renee is interested in starting up a beginner/all levels running group. Amy Blake and Marty Mazur offered tips and advice for getting the group started.
Seminar Series. Cheryl Capone reported that the first seminar on nutrition, presented by dietitian Jody Whipple, was well attended and received. The next seminar on Self Defense has been canceled due to a scheduling issue with Monarch Martial Arts. Registrants will be offered a refund or a transfer to the Strength Training seminar. The last seminar in the series is Strength Training, presented by physical therapist Tom Whipple on June 29. The seminar will include some lecture and some demonstration and the cost is $15 for members.
Club Picnic. The picnic is held in place of the August meeting. Cheryl and Dean Capone have offered to host it at their home again with a mid-August date. Stay tuned for details and a potluck signup.
Arts Fest Races. The club's signature races and main fundraiser will be held on July 12 and include a 5K, 10K, and 10-miler. Be there!
Marathoners for Medicine. Jaimie Wright sent a report that the team has raised nearly $40,000 for Centre Volunteers in Medicine and is in the home stretch to reach its goal of $50,000 by June 30. To make a contribution, go to cvim.net and click on Marathoners for Medicine.
Shoe Collection. Dave DeGroote is still collecting gently used running shoes and will be at the Tussey Teaser on Sunday.
