Minutes of the October 7, 2014 meeting of the NVRC
In attendance: Amy Blake (president), Tara Murray (secretary/archivist), Marty Mazur (communications director), Dave Eggler (treasurer), Mike Casper, Jake Clements
Timing. Dave Eggler reported that the Flutopia race director was surprised to get an invoice for timing and hasn't paid it. The officers agreed that we won't time the race next year unless the invoice is paid.
NCAA XC Champs at Penn State 40th Anniversary. The NVRC was approached to help sponsor a speaker. The officers agreed we would contribute a couple hundred dollars but beyond that is out of our budget.
Picnic. Comments about the picnic were very positive and more people than usual came. Cheryl and Dean Capone were excellent hosts and Jake Clements and his wife did a fantastic job with cooking. Jake said he'd like to ask if people are vegetarian or vegan on the RSVP next year because the veggie options went very quickly.
In attendance: Amy Blake (president), Tara Murray (secretary/archivist), Marty Mazur (communications director), Dave Eggler (treasurer), Mike Casper, Jake Clements, Grace Small, Dave DeGroote, Bob Shafer, Tom Jech, Paula Jech, Alan Cameron, Kim Gasper, Jaimie Wright, Beth Ramos, Nate Thacker
Mountainback. Mike Casper and Grace Small spoke about the need for volunteers. The two big needs are course setup, and groups to work aid stations. Grace is looking for suggestions for groups to contact. Amy offered to help make contacts and several people made suggestions. See http://tusseymountainback.com/volunteer-info for more information or to sign up.
Knights of Columbus 5K. Jaimie Wright said the race needs both runners and volunteers. It's the club's official beginner's 5K.
Self defence for runners. Tara approached Monarch Martial Arts about doing a self defense clinic for runners. The clinic would last 2 hours and cost $25 per runner. There seemed to be sufficient interest so Tara will get more information. People wanted to know what the minimum and maximum class size would be, if there is an age limit for kids, and whether a weekend time was possible. Mike Casper is also looking into a wilderness clinic.
Nittany Valley Half Marathon. On behalf of race director John Wilcock, Tara announced that the race needs a co-director in charge of the course on race day. This would be a race day only commitment.
Mt. Nittany Marathon. On behalf of race director John Hook, Tara announced that the third Mt. Nittany Marathon is Sunday, September 6, 2015. This is the Sunday of Labor Day weekend and the race will again start at 7:00 AM. Same exact course as year two.
We also passed around a couple cards for Coach Harry Groves, who is in rehab following a fall. Feel better, Coach!
