Minutes of the June 3, 2014 meeting of the NVRC
In attendance: Dave Eggler (treasurer), Marty Klanchar (membership director), Tara Murray (secretary/archivist), Amy Blake (president), Marty Mazur (communications director), John Wilcock, Dana Gingerich, Cheryl Capone, Jake Clements
Nittany Valley Running Club has applied for a business credit card through First National Bank of PA. The club has authorized David Eggler, Treasurer, and Tara Murray, Secretary, to sign the business credit card application on behalf of the Nittany Valley Running Club. The First National Bank signatory papers were signed by the appropriate club officers.
Cheryl and Dean Capone have offered to host the picnic at their house on Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. The club will purchase burgers and veggie burgers and sides, desserts, and drinks will be potluck. Cheryl will send out more details and signups in July.
Arts Fest Races
The event will include the 5K, 10K, and 10-miler again this year. The 5K course will be modified for campus construction.
Dana works at Appalachian Outdoors and is interested in getting more involved with the club. She is going to work with the owner on a discount for club members and Marty K. will give her a list of members and officers. She is going to shadow Dave this year and take over directing the Arts Fest races next year. She is also going to take on the role of apparel coordinator. Marty M. explained that she can find out what type of apparel people are interested in and coordinate orders. We still have some singlets, and people can still order Knuetes hats with an embroidered patch of the club logo.
In attendance: Dave Eggler (treasurer), Marty Klanchar (membership director), Tara Murray (secretary/archivist), Amy Blake (president), Marty Mazur (communications director), John Wilcock, Dana Gingerich, Cheryl Capone, Jake Clements, Kim Gasper, Carl Miller, Alan Cameron, Bob Shafer
Amy continued the discussion of regular group runs for all abilities. The Tussey Mountainback Discovery Runs are popular on Thursday evenings so Thursday was suggested as a good day. We can start before then, take a hiatus during the Discovery Runs, and then use their momentum to start back up. We'll meet at local parks and do out-and-backs or well defined loops. The Toftrees Trail was suggested as a good route.
Free to Breathe 5K
Jolene and Shelly gave an update on their race, planned for Sept. 13 at Tudek Park, to benefit lung cancer research. They passed out save the date cards with the website and Facebook page. The race is also on the club race calendar. They also need volunteers for race day.
Mt. Nittany Marathon
John Hook passed on a report that early registration has ended but regular registration is still available for $75. There are 159 registrations so far – triple the number at this time last year. Watch for a call for volunteers after July 4.
Next meeting: There will be no August meeting. Come to the picnic!
