Minutes of the April 1, 2014 meeting of the NVRC
NVRC Board Meeting
In attendance: Marty Klanchar, Tara Murray, Marty Mazur, Jake Clements, Dave Eggler, Amy Blake, Cheryl Capone, Dave DeGroote.
First Quality Health & Wellness Fair: We were invited to participate in this event on a Wednesday morning in Lock Haven. Amy will see if we can send a brochure since it's not feasible to send volunteers.
Volunteer opportunities: Knights of Columbus 5K, Boalsburg Memorial Day Run, Arts Fest races, beginner/regular group runs. We'll continue the discussion on regular group runs by email and develop a list of meeting places (local parks) and routes and find a day of the week.
Sponsorships: We received a request from State College high school runners for New Balance Nationals and decided to cover registration and a percentage of travel (about $200/runner).
What is a "club-sponsored" race? This stemmed from an earlier discussion of race timing. All races that go through the NVRC checkbook are club races. There are other "club-affiliated" races like First Night and the Mountainback.
NVRC Membership Meeting
In attendance: Marty Klanchar, Tara Murray, Marty Mazur, Jake Clements, Dave Eggler, Amy Blake, Cheryl Capone, Dave DeGroote, Mark Fedkin, Jeff Smucker, John Iceland, Kim Gasper, Carl Miller, Bob Shafer.
Race series: Two more series races were run this past weekend: April Fool's 5K and Egg Hill 10-miler.
Brochure: Amy Blake asked if anyone in the club had experience creating brochures. She would like to have one to send to the wellness fair in Lock Haven and it would be good to have for the State College outdoor expo.
Volunteer opportunities: Several local races are looking for new race directors. The new person would get plenty of training. Knights of Columbus needs an RD for 2014 and Boalsburg Memorial Day and Arts Fest need new RDs for 2015.
Group runs: The club is looking to start regular group runs for all paces.
Sponsorships: The club officers approved a request to sponsor high school runners at indoor nationals.
Free to Breathe: Jolene Holson spoke about a new race to benefit research and lung cancer awareness. It will be Sept. 13, 10am at Tudek Park, using the same course as the Flutopia 5K. They had a race in 2012 and would like to make it an annual event.
Nittany Track & Field: Mark Fedkin spoke about the season starting May 5. The club welcomes kids from 8-18 and practices are held Monday through Thursday - but it's flexible and kids can come as often as they want. The club also welcomes additional volunteers.
Next meeting: June 3.
