The second meet of the 2026 Indoor Mile Series had low attendance, but still saw some fireworks, including another new women's record. We usually have lower attendance for the second meet of the season because our time slot is a Friday afternoon rather than a Saturday morning. In addition, the Penn State Cross-Country Club usually participates in a fundraising event this weekend, so we were missing quite a few of the young fast runners. But we still had some fast times and great races.

In the first heat, the top three finishers were female, and all bettered their times from the last meet. Martina Drew led all the way to finish first in 6:18.63, dropping 4 seconds from her previous time. Taylor Fein was second in 6:41.97, nearly 12 seconds better than her previous outing. And Tara Murray Grove took third in 6:46.32 after subtracting 9 seconds from her previous time.

Kalyn Fisher returned this week and, despite running on two hours sleep, stormed through the 8 laps in 5:05.07, bettering her time of the last meet by almost 0.2 seconds. Next week, with a bit more sleep, she plans to run in the same heat as women's masters record holder Allie Guillard. It should be a great race! Jonathan Stuble was second in 5:14.35.

The fast heat saw a great kick to the finish, with the top three runners finishing within 0.8 seconds of each other. Augustus Platt was first in 4:34.60. Scott Wallace, turning in the fastest men's masters time of the season so far, was second in 4:35.31. And Owen Strickler was right behind him in 4:35.40. But the big story of that heat was Allie Guillard breaking her own freshly minted Master's Women's Record by a second and a quarter, finishing in 4:59.26.

Next week's meet will feature heats of the mile, the 3000 meter run, and a Predicted Time Contest. Sharpen your spikes and come on out!
