FIRST NIGHT STATE COLLEGE 5K RESOLUTION RUN
DECEMBER 31, 2000

     The fourth annual Resolution Run on the “real millennium” saw much colder temperatures than the balmy millennial run in 1999.  Although temperatures were well below freezing, the streets were snow-free, the wind was not too bad, and a festive group of runners, many colorfully costumed from fairies to leopards to tuxedos, took off from the heart of downtown State College at 5:30.  The course loops around the Penn State campus and finishes again on College Avenue.  There were 259 registrants and 229 finishers.
     The first three men were separated by only five seconds.  Coming in first was James Wiggin of Warriors Mark.  Last year’s masters winner Guy Gordon of Newton, NJ returned this year to win the second-place plaque in the overall category, a notable achievement at 42.   The women’s winner, Laurie Parton, also from Newton, NJ, repeated her triumph of 1999.  Second was local high-school runner Alyssa Gaebel.
