Emily Reed has been hosting some regular easy-paced runs the last few weeks that I hope some of our “beginner” runners have been coming out for. Michael Goldfine recently hosted a run up in the mountains for those who like a little more gravity thrown into their long runs. And as soon as Bob Shafer recuperates from his recent half-marathon, I suspect he’ll be hosting longer, faster (sub-8 min/mile) runs for those that favor them. All in all, I’d say we may be seeing a “post”-COVID (note the irony quotes) resurgence in our group run offerings. I haven’t posted a run in a while, so here goes. It’s for people who want a relatively easy-paced un (10-ish minutes/mile) over a not-so-beginnerly distance (6+ miles) in a beautiful, FLAT setting. It would be ideal for newcomers to town who want to scope out a great place for their own training runs.
Marty Mazur will lead a group run in Spring Creek Canyon on Saturday starting at 8 AM at the Fish and Boat Hatchery in Fisherman’s Paradise. The run will be easy-paced (10-ish minute miles) and cover about 6.3 miles. It’s an out-and-back run along the creek, so those who want to run shorter (or longer) can easily tag along. The terrain is relatively flat. The trail is a mix of gravel road, packed stone trail, and two-track jeep trails, not technical at all. Scenery and wildlife will be in the offing. Meet Marty at 8 AM at the hatchery parking lot, which is at then end of Spring Creek Rd. To get there, take Paradise Ln west from Rt 150 . This intersection is at the light just north of the Bellefonte 150 North exit of I-99. Follow Paradise Ln to the bottom of the hill and make a left. Here’s a link to the location: https://goo.gl/maps/Yj9VbevachC4b6Pu6 It’s about 15 minutes from State College. Call or text Marty at (814) 360-9967 if you’re running late.
