Minutes of the June 2nd meeting of the NVRC
Membership Zoom Meeting
Club officers present: Bob Shafer (president), David Eggler (treasure),Marty Mazur (communications director, Marty Klanchar (membership director), Erika Christiansen (secretary / archivist). Other present: Cheryl Keller Capone, Michael Renz, Katrina D'Anca, and a warm welcome to our new running / Yoga Lab friend Laura Van Velsor!
We’re still in an uncertain time so the club held a Zoom meeting last night. Marty Klanchar spoke about the outdoor mile series. He submitted a two page proposal to CRPR to hold the outdoor mile series at Tudek park, with proposed dates on Tuesday evening’s July 14th, 21st and the 28th.
With the cancellation of group runs and talk about when it will be ok to start up group runs, Cheryl Capone gave us some insight on what the State College Cycling Club has done during the coronavirus. She explained they were given a detailed survey that the cyclist would have the opportunity to answer questions and suggest how they felt it would be best to stay safe on the roads. After learning about this survey the club officers agreed our running club should have a Covid-19 survey online.
Marty Mazur download the RRCA waiver and edited it to add in key hazards for our area (wild animals, insects, ticks, deer, groundhogs, porcupines, turkeys, snakes, bears and hunters). Now that this waiver has been updated to better suit our area, the waiver will be attached to the Covid-19 survey on our website. The club encourages all NVRC members to take the survey and fill out the waiver. The survey and waiver are not online, as of now, an email to the Listserve will be sent out when they are up and ready to be filled out.
Races for the summer have been cancelled but we’re uncertain about fall races. The Give 'Em 5 race for Veterans committee has been discussing how (and if) to proceed with the race this year, which is scheduled for early November. The committee is concerned about the safety of participants and the availability of the location at the Bellefonte middle school. We will hear more details within the next few weeks.
The NVRC Turkey Trot is a popular well attended race during thanksgiving. We will stay tuned to see if Jayson Jackson will be holding the fun “gobble gobble” trot this year.
Katrina D’Anca, the race director of the Nittany Valley Half Marathon, mention she is waiting for two dates June 15th and Penn States announcement. She doesn’t think Penn State will rent out the Ag Arena or another space to hold the half marathon due to the number of people at the event. Katrina is leaning towards not having the half marathon, instead, setting up a donation button to make a contribution to raise money for local races.
Marathon for Medicine will be keeping their online pages open for the entire year, opposed to the end of June. We hope this will help with the fundraising goals for CVIM.
Some of you have been running in groups during this pandemic, others are about to start group runs again, please be safe and ensure your practicing social distancing of 6 feet apart. Stay healthy NVRC runners!
Next meeting: August 4th (we’ll let you know of the location closer to the date - Hi-Way Pizza or Zoom!)
