Marathon for Medicine is off to a great start for 2019. M4M has over 30 people signed up to be apart of this year’s team with the first racers competing in March. There was a kick-off dinner last week where the runners met one another, met the CVIM staff, toured the clinic and took a team photo. The runners personal websites on the CVIM's website will be set up soon. Orders for this year’s singlet should be sent to Jamie Wright at the email address below. The honorary coaches are Greg Fredericks, Sue Paterno and Jen Rahne. Media day is up in the air but when the date is set we will let you know on our email listserve and our website. There is still time to join this year’s team. Send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. if you would like to join.

The Arts Festival race has a race committee and a new course. We couldn’t get one person to fill in the incredible shoes of Jake Clements as the Race Director. The club decided to create a team to help run the Arts Festival race. The team consists of David Eggler, acting Race Director, Erika Christiansen secretary of the NVRC, Chris Hunsberger a local runner and in 2006 the race was name after her mother, The Sue Crowe Arts Festival Race, as a memorial, and Doug Schunk a local runner and club member. A huge thank you goes out to David Eggler for getting all of the approvals and legal tasks done before the team was assigned.

The 5k and 10k races will start at the Ag Arena, instead of Medlar Field. The 5k race will run out and under the fabble tunnel towards Innovation Park, then circle back to the Arena to complete the 3.1 miles. The 10k will leave the Ag Arena towards Fox Hollow, to Big Hollow, make a right onto the Rails to Trails towards Toftrees and turn around back to the Arena to complete the 6.2 miles. Registration will be on

Marty Klanchar spoke about the successful Indoor Mile Series held at the Multi-Sport Facility. The Penn State Coaches were very supportive of our club running the mile series and we will be able to continue running the series for as long as they are apart of the Penn State staff. Penn State’s cross country and club cross country team’s showed up for the entire series. We had four heats for every series, had a few newcomers from out of town and had our first high school runner to compete in the mile series. Next year we will add a high school heat. Jaime Wright ran incredibly and took the Masters 3k and Masters Mile series. This was a great boost for our club’s membership with fifty people renewing their memberships.

Marty Mazur spoke about the Centre Region Parks and Rec’s planning meeting for the long-term planning of our regions parks, trails and other facilities. Tony Kwasnica wrote a report about the interest of putting a track or a path around the proposed soccer fields. Marty Mazur, Tony and several others in the running community attended the meeting on February 6th. Marty and Tony wanted to share the interests of the NVRC and the Nittany Track and Field and shared the running communities interest in a public track to help alleviate the shrinking access to Penn State’s facilities.

The Egg Hill race website which was hosted on the local artists website, Carl Leitzel, has been moved to the NVRC website. The 10 mile race and relays, held in April at the Old Gregg School benefits the Penns Valley track and cross country programs. You may now find more information about the race on our website.
