Minutes of the June 5th 2018 Meeting of the NVRC

Club officers present: Bob Shafer (president), Dave Eggler (treasurer), Marty Mazur (communications director), Erika Christiansen (secretary/archivist). Others present: Jake Clements and family, Liz Kisenwether, Dave DeGroote, David Lloyd, Rev. Carl Miller, Monica and Bil Mahoney, John Iceland, Tony Kwasnica, Cheryl Capone, Tim Scitti. Please welcome a new member, Conor Lewis.

The officers discussed the idea of a NVRC picnic / summer party! With the previous year’s attendance being low the club is trying something new. The next club meeting will be held Tuesday August 14^th(instead of August 7^th). The meeting will be held at Hi-Way Pizza Pub West on 1301 West College Avenue. The Club members are welcome to park at Hi-Way West and run a loop around the Golf Course (Blue loop, White loop or both!) before the meeting and party. This run isn’t mandatory but we thought it would be fun way to start the summer party. Participants who want to be apart of the run may bring a White Elephant gift for an awards ceremony. This gift maybe something simple as a re-gift, a bottle of Gatorade, or a race t-shirt. We will have a reservation outside at Hi-West Pizza Pubs patio.

Please save the date for the NVRC Fun Run Summer Pizza Party Tuesday August 14^th. More details will be announced by the newly appointed Co-Chairs Marty Mazur and Cheryl Keller Capone.

Marty Mazur spoke about up coming races. The Egg Hill race, which is his favorite race, the 10 mile race and relays, was held on April 15^th at the Old Gregg School. The race benefited the Penns Valley track and cross country programs. The weather wasn’t so great with 20/25 mile winds and the attendance was about 70 runners. Some club members asked why the race was scheduled so close to the Boston Marathon? Maybe the date could be revisited to another date?

Marty updated the club about the Memorial Day Race and the Black Moshanon Race, for the Race Director Josh Cone. The attendance was great for both and there was nothing but positive feedback.

Tony Kwasnica gave us a report on The Central PA Youth Track Meet. There were 500 runners from the ages of 8-18 years of age. There were runners through out the state and also Maryland. New this year, they added Pole Vault events and held events on Friday evening, as well as Saturday. The Nittany Track & Field Club is at it’s largest to date, 230 children.

Liz Kisenwether spoke about the 2nd Annual Fibonacci cross country 5K, relay and a fun run. This race supports hands-on STEM experiences fro kids and to spark creativity and imagination. Since I'm late on posting the minutes from Tuesday's meeting you may see the race results below.

Monica Mahoney spoke about The Tussey mOUTAiN BACK. Hold onto your breeches…the course will be going in reverse. Yes, we did say this, backwards. They are looking for volunteers and a new Volunteer Coordinator. This year’s race will benefit Team Ream.

The NVRC has switched from Yahoo groups list serve to Google groups list serve. Please be sure to log onto Google groups and search for the Nittany Valley Running Club to sign-up and be abreast of everything that is going on with the club via email. Currently we have 150 members on the new listserve.
