Minutes of the April 4th 2017 Meeting of the NVRC
Club officers present: Bob Shafer (president), Dae Eggler (treasurer), Marty Mazur (communications director), Marty Klanchar (membership director), Erika Christiansen (secretary / archivist). Others present: Amy Blake, Tara Murray, Jake and Sarah Clements.
The officers discussed the construction on Pollock and Hastings roads and how to redirect the Arts Festival Race Course. They are waiting on approval of the new routes from the Univeristy Police. Once the approval is confirmed, the 10K and 10 mile course will be sent out.

Marty Mazur spoke about Sunday April 9th NVRC Rodney Myers Memorial Run around Egg Hill 10 Miler, for Jodi Butler, the Race Director who was absent. Marty was the appropriate person to speak about this run. He will have run this race 14 times and spoke about a few challneges but how beautiful the course is. There is a relay option and a kids race. There are prices, door prizes and a raffle for a bike donated by the Bicycle Shop. The beneiciary is the Penns Valley Area School District track and cross-country programs. More details http://keleitzel.com/egghill/
Marty spoke about NVRC Running Workshop "Run Healthy, Run Strong". Cheryl Keller Capone (PhD, NASM-CPT) and Christine Doorman (USATF Level 1) will be leading this workshop. This is a free 4 week session for all levels of runners looking to improve their performance. The series is booked with runners on the waiting list. They will be meeting Sundays, April 30, May 7, May 14, May 21 at 3:00 pm at Tudek Park. If you missed signing up, don't fret, with the success of this workshop, there could be more in the future!
Tara Murray gave an update on Marathon for Medicine. There was a kick-off dinner at John Domico's house with a total of 27 runners who are apart of this year's team. Last weekend, 9 runners from the Ladies Creamery Running Group ran the oldest race in North America, "Around the Bay 30K". Runners will be running in half marathons, marathons, and trail races in support of CVIM's mission. This year's Honorary Coach will be Fumi Franklin and Sue Paterno, Coach Russ Rose and Greg Fredericks will be joining Mrs.Franklin. Amy Blake, Former President, made an annoucement that she is an Ambassador for the Skirt Sport athletic apparel. There is an Ambassador retreat in June where she will not be able to attend but plans on running a virtual 13'er, here in State College (if anyone is interested in running with her). Liz Kisenwether spoke about the Fibonacci 4K Fun Run. This will be held on Saturday July 8th at the PA Military Musuem. It will consist of two 2K loops and there will be a relay as well. This will be a fundraiser for the Discovery Space and KidTech. More details on the time and the course will come soon.
Katrina D'Anca, Race Director, spoke about the discussions with the officers about changing the Nittany Valley Half Marathon course. This was brought to our attention after feedback from runners who had mentioned they questioned the two loops behind the Ag Arena. Katrina is looking to get approval on the new route in Houserville. She also discussed about adding a family fun event. There are discussions in process and more details will be annouced.
Tara Murray gave some more details about the Give 'Em 5 Race. This will be a 5 mile / 5K run on Sunday October 29th. She and Deloris Beobeck are working with the Veterans Assistance Fund. Deloris will manage the race information. Open registeration will be on imathlete.com
