Region Youth Cross Country Runs
The first Youth Cross Country races of the season were held at the PSU
Cross Country Course
in conjunction with the Spiked Shoe Invitational. The weather was drab
turf was still wet and muddy
courtesy of Hurricane Frances.
In the first
race, YXC regular Katya Borisov led from start to finish. Katya doesn't
care if there are runners
breathing down her neck or if she's far ahead of the pack. She always
gives it her all, bearing discomfort
with a look of fierce determination. Natasha Fedkina showed how tough a
six-year-old can be, beating all
boys in the field. And Jack Etter was the fastest boy, finishing third
overall.
Age 8 and Under (2 kilometer, 1.2 miles)
The Spiked Shoe
officials wanted to get things moving for the busy day of Collegiate
and High School
races, so no 4K YXC race was held. The rest of the age groups all ran
the 3K. In the 9-10 age group,
Kyle Poorman finished first in 14:12, followed closely by Nikita Fedkin.
Chloe Schmidt took the 11-12
age group in 13:13. And 13-year-old Matt Brooker came in first overall
in 12:49.
