2006 Tussey Teaser #2 - 3nd Annual Tussey-Whipple 11-Miler Revival Run
April 9, 2006
by Jeff Henderson
A frosty but beautiful spring morning greeted 12 adventurous
runners for the 3rd annual Tussey to Whipple 11 Miler race. Temperatures hovered around the freezing mark
at the start of the race and then climbed slowly into the lower 40's during the
11 mile trek which covers legs 1, 2, and 3 of the Tussey mOUnTaiNBACK 50 mile course. Race conditions
were excellent with gentle cool breezes and sunny blue skies peaking through
the trees. Joe Shuta commented that
there were no bears, snakes, or other unfriendly mountain critters along the
way (always a plus when wanting to record a good time). However, a few runners did mention some
unclaimed blue luggage on the side of the road around the halfway point.
Tim Spigelmyer breezed through the course in a time of 1:15:57, besting his time from last year's
race by almost 4 minutes. Steve Geyer of
Bellefonte followed in 2nd place with a time of 1:22:51
and Dave Gantz from Manheim finished 3rd in a time of 1:23:59. Stacy Moir from Centre Hall was the first female
at 1:38:20. Just eleven seconds
behind her was Sue Challis of State College who finished
in 1:38:31.
This was the 2nd race of the year in the Tussey Teaser
series. The next Tussey Teaser race, the Beidleheimer Sidewinder 10K, will be
held on Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m.
