Bellefonte FaithCentre 5K - Saturday, March 3, 2007

The First Annual FaithCentre Run/Walk was held at the Bellefonte Middle School on March 3. Many participants noticed large snowflakes falling from the sky earlier in the morning, but by the time the 5K race started, the snow was gone. There were a few icy spots on the course, but the sun was already starting to melt them, and course marshals with traffic cones helped runners navigate the slippery spots.
 
The course wound through the Parkview Heights neighborhood of Bellefonte, starting and ending in the middle school parking lot. Race organizers promised that the course was “not too hilly—for Bellefonte” and they were true to their word, as runners encountered only rolling hills and nothing like Reservoir Hill.
 
Chris Shefick won the men’s race with a time of 18:19 and Meira Minard won the women’s race in 20:31. The top three male and female overall and age group finishers all received medals at an awards ceremony held inside the school.
 
David Dimmick, acting Executive Director of FaithCentre, Inc., said that the run and walk raised a total of about $9,600, about $8,500 of which went directly to FaithCentre after costs.
