Minutes of October 7, 2003 NVRC Meeting.
The regular meeting of the Nittany Valley Running Club was held on
Tuesday, October 7, at the Hi-Way Pizza on Westerly Parkway. In
attendance were Boyd Brumbaugh, Marty Mazur and Andy Mazur, Dave Eggler, Mike Casper, and
Jim Taylor.
Boyd wasn't on time, so the first pitcher of the night was not a
Sam Adams brew, but Yuengling Lager. There seems to be a cult following
developing for the pizza topping selection Marty came up with last
time, though: pepperoni, onions and green olives!
There wasn't a whole lot of business to discuss. Marty reported on the
Knights of Columbus 5K. He was frustrated that he still hasn't cracked
100 runners for that race. This year, 90 runners signed up and 81
finished the race. Harry Groves brought some PSU try-outs, who smoked
the course. One of them, Eamon Brazunas, ran the fastest time, 15:49,
since Marty took over the race in 2000. The race raised over $850 for
the two charities, the Schlow Memorial Library Children's Department
and the Tom Kleban Recovery Fund. The members present decided to make
the amount given to the charities to an even $900.
Mike Casper was counting down the minutes till the Tussey
mOUnTaiNBACK 50 Mile Relay and Ultramarathon. He and Steve Bodner were
rounding up last minute volunteers and taking care of other fire
drills. Over 40 teams and 20 ultras had signed up by the time of the
meeting.
The Half Marathon applications are printed up and will be mailed and otherwise distributed in the coming weeks.
The weekend group runs are a big success, helped along by another success, the NVRC discussion group on Yahoo.com.
Next Meeting: December 2.
