The Jeremy Herbstritt Memorial Fund
Jeremy Herbstritt was a local runner, a Bellefonte High
School and Penn State grad, who
died in the Virginia Tech shootings in April 2007. In May 2007, the Department
of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Penn State and the Nittany Valley
Running Club put on a 5K
race/walk to honor Jeremy's memory. The event, organized on short notice,
was very successful, attracting over 400 participants. We hope to make the race
a regular event. Jeremy's father, Mike Herbstritt, said he hopes to take money
donated to his family and one day build a track at Bellefonte Area High
School, so the school district has its own
facility. "That's one of our goals, a track that we can dedicate to
Jeremy, so we can all run it in Jeremy's footsteps." Donations can
continue to be made at www.ccunitedway.org/index.html,
marked for the United Way Memorial Fund for Jeremy Herbstritt.
