It was a cold and drab day for the first Thursday Track workout of 2008. With steely resolve, John Domico, Jim Myers, John Sheakoski, Marty Klanchar, Judd Michael, Lance Bland, Mark Fedkin, Mark Traband, Jerry Steffy, Dana Todd, Duane Serpentine, Brian Russell, Alexis Navarre, Tara Murray, John Pringle, Lee Culver, and Marty Mazur took the intelligent approach to speed workouts and wrapped themselves in the warmth of the Multi-Sport Facility. Greg Fredericks and Bob Jones continued their old ways by jogging around the outdoor track.
Bwana resolved to start getting people ready for the Indoor Mile Series, which starts in 9 days. But he had to balance that with not wanting to kill anybody off this early in the year. So he compromised by calling for 2-person 5X2-lap relays. Each 2 lap stint was a bit more than a quarter mile, so some speed and a little endurance was called for. Nothing that a few extra Christmas cookies couldn't provide.
Speaking of a few extra Christmas cookies, while some of us were tossing ours after our burning quarters, Jamie Volkert, George Lesieutre, Frank Zaffino, Sherry Tirko, Ruth Mick, Dave Degroote, Christine Rice, Vicky Summers, Ken Davis, Nick Downs, Andy Webb, Greg Dillon, Matt Soccio, Dave Moore, and a few others were tossing back what was left of their cookies, punch, fruitcake and egg nog. Remember, slackers, while it's too early to ditch your New Year's resolutions just yet, it's not too early to start getting on Bwana's good side!

"There is no steady unretracing progress in this life; we do not advance through fixed gradations, and at last one pause:- through infancy's unconscious spell, boyhood's thoughtless faith, adolescence, doubt...then scepticism, then disbelief, resting at last in manhood's pondering repose of If. But once gone through, we trace the round again: and are infants, boys, men, and Ifs eternally. Where lies the final harbour, whence we unmoor no more?"
