Ninety-eight runners and walkers completed this year's race. Except for a peek of direct sun early in the race, the weather was mild with a gentle breeze. This year's race featured runners from age 10 to 81.
The overall winners were David Moore. Half a minute back, Nick Grasser held off masters runner Patrick Singletary by a single stride for second. Beth Herndon paced the women's race. Brianna Bair edged out Edel Crowe by 9 seconds to take second.
The youngest women were well represented, with six 10-year-olds in the 11 & Under division. Madison Lovelace put in the fastest time of the day. Anna Beaver, also 10, was back for her fourth Crack O' Dawn 5K, having started at age 6 - youngest female to complete the course - and etched a new best time for this course.
On the upper end, Arnold Gasche, 81, held off younger man Glenn Wright, 77, until just before the finish line, though both were first in their age groups. Marie Doll, 72, represented and won her division with a broad smile.
The signature flapjack breakfast that followed was gobbled up efficiently by the group. Thanks to Lance Bland and Mike Philippe for a stellar culinary performance, and to Harriet Rosenberg and Ann Van Kuren for invaluable assistance; to Bob, Edel, John and Paul Crowe for set-up help; to Stephanie Hosier, Bob and Kellie Rice for handling registration; to Dean Capone for finish line help; to Susan Beyerle and Christine Rice for staffing the water station; to Cheryl Capone (with help from Dave Eggler) for timing and results.
Mild weather meant it was a crowded start for this year's race.
