4th Annual Bear Meadows Made-in-the-Shade 7.0 or 10.6 Miler
Bear Meadows - June 28, 2009
Twenty-three runners came out to traverse these hills under light overcast and a gentle breeze, a good bit cooler than usual for late June. John Wilcox and Sarah Farrant crossed the line first for the men and women on the 7-mile loop. Alan Effrig and Pam Scott were the first man and woman on the long version. Pam took two spills on the trail-ish portion but recovered for a steady finish. First timers for the longer run included Denise Weaver and Janice Dauber and Mary Conner-Righter.
Three runners completed all five Tussey Teaser runs. Denise won the coveted grand door prize – an ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery. Jeanette Peters and Terry Reid got CSC “Love It” treats for doing all five. Additional giveaways came from Cold Stone and Trail Runner Magazine, along with an inov-8 hydration pack and three mOUnTaiNBACK limited edition black technical shirts.
A big thanks to Dave DeGroote for course setup. Dave put in 9 warm-up miles, did the long one, and tacked on a 3-mile cool down – and all that after racing a hilly 5K the previous day. Many thanks to Pam for bringing great treats – juice, bagels, cream cheese, tea, water. We were almost ready to call it a picnic meal and go do it again.
