The first meet in the 2022 Indoor Mile Series was a great success. It's been two years since the Series has been run, and it was great seeing some familiar faces from past Series. It was also nice seeing a much bigger participation from among the women in the PSU Cross-Country Club than we had in several years!

The first heat was almost all PSU XC Club girls. Ella Snyder was patient and took the lead in the last quarter mile to edge Tess Wright, breaking 6 minutes to finish in 5:59.68. Tess will be trying harder next time to go under 6, just missing this time in 6:01.27. And Quincy Reese was not far behind, finishing third in 6:04.53.

The second heat saw the fastest Men's and Women's Masters times, and a near record. The top 3 finishers were Benjamin Wonderling, who won running away in 4:47.63 (he'll be moved up to the fast heat the next time he runs); Michael Fisher in 5:17.83; and Sean Devlin in 5:30.24, who was the top Men's Masters finisher. Carly Shea, an accomplished Women's Masters runner, nearly took the NVRC Women's Masters record of 5:35.56 set by Jaimie Wright in 2020, finishing 5th in the heat in 5:36.36. 

The fast heat was really fast. Vince Fadale ran the fastest mile the Series has seen in 5 years, topping the field in 4:25.96. But Nicholas Deamer was not too far behind, clocking 4:28.04. Matt Balogh, perennial Series runner, took third in 4:38.72. But expect Matt to close in on the 4:30 times he's used to running as the series goes on.

The next meet in the Indoor Mile Series is next Friday, January 21, in conjunction with the Penn State National Meet. Ella Snyder won the first heat, and broke 6 minutes.

Benjamin Wonderling was the fastest runner in the second heat.

Carly Shea was less than a second from capturing the Series Masters Women's record.

Vince Fadale turned in the fastest Series time in 5 years to win the fast heat.
