New NVRC Website Released! Print E-mail
Written by Dave DeGroote

As you can see, we've finally released the new web site! Hopefully you'll find it easier to locate things. There are also a few new features:

The new calendar is hosted on Google's calendar site. You'll notice it's actually several calendars now, and you need display only those you're interested in... if you want to see when the next local race is, just click on "Local Races" in the table. There are also now options to add the calendars to your personal calendars like Outlook, iCal, or Google calendars.

The race results section now has a filter so you can select just the race you want to see.

New features will be rolled out as we get the site tweaked. For now, please let us know what you think, and email either Dave or Marty with any problems you find. There will no doubt be some broken links and glitches, but we're working hard to make the new site ready for you to use. We've tried to make the new site easier to navigate. Let us know if this is so. If you can't find something from the old site on the new one, use the search bar above. Much of the new site is cataloged and searchable. More of it will become searchable soon.

Finally, if you need it, the old site is still available here, but please let us know if there was something broken on the new site that made it so that you needed the old site. In time, the old site will become out of date.

Update (11/5): We are working to get the rest of the pages for Club Sponsored Races up and looking nice. First Night's page is almost there. Also working on getting all the maps pages online. They are all still available on the old site. Online membership renewal is also coming soon.

1st. Annual State College Christmas Light Run Print E-mail
Written by Denise Weaver
We had a super awesome turnout for our St. College Christmas Light Run last night!  We weren't only looking for Christmas lights, but secretly we were on a mission to find Santa Claus.  Santa's lead reindeer Rudolph (A.K.A. Jamie V.) and at least 32 other Santa's Elves joined in on the secret mission to find the jolly old fella.  Santa's little right hand Elf Evan Casper lead our quest to find Santa.

There were lots of pretty Christmas light that helped light our way and the elves even stopped to sing a Christmas song or two so that in hopes that Santa would hear them. The poor elves had to climb hills long and far when all of a sudden Elf Tom said that he actually heard the sound of Santa's voice calling out a Ho! Ho! Ho! in the wind.

So the brave elves made their way to where Santa's voice was heard and what they found was Santa's get away cottage on North Pole Avenue.  The elves knew then that their mission had been accomplished and that Santa was found!  As the jolly old fella (A.K.A. Marty Mazur) made his way to the door, Santa's elves sang him a special Christmas song called "Merry Marty Mazur (A.K.A. Santa) Christmas".  CD coming to stores near you.  (Just kidding folks!)  Santa jumped for joy that his elves had found him in the wintery mix and to show his little friends his appreciation he started throwing snowballs at them to see how much energy they had after their long quest to find him.

Well Santa's elves had enough of the snowballs and the weather, so they ended their Santa quest by treating themselves to some treats and hot chocolate at Dunkin Donuts on Candy Cane Lane.
What a way to end a secret mission don't you think?    MERRY CHRISTMAS !

Passing Muster Print E-mail
Written by Martin Mazur
It was cold, with ice forming on surfaces. And it looks like Mother Nature will be opening the fridge tomorrow. Only runners who are a cut above the ordinary made it to the track today. Present were John Domico, Tom Cali, Judd Michael, Lance Bland, Costas Maranas, John Sheakoski, Ed, Sam and Tommy Thompson, Dana Todd, Jamie Volkert, Tara Murray, Greg Dillon, Stephanie Serriere, Michael and Kelson Goldfine, Mark Fedkin, and Marty Mazur.

Bwana wanted to see if the crew would pass muster. He gave the 3-4-4-3 lap pace workout. That's where you hold it in a little on the first 3 lapper, try to keep the same pace through the two 4 lappers, then go for the big blowout on the final 3 lapper. We had a newcomer Stephanie Serriere. Her name must mean "serrated" in French, because she cut right through the workout. The whole crew passed muster, including and in particular one lone runner who must have passed some mustard gas along the back stretch. Whoever it was, you've left your mark on the crew: the cloud is probably still hanging there.

Some of Bwana's crew who occasionally pass for runners had some pretty rank excuses today. John Pringle and Lee Culver were at an ARL Christmas Luncheon. Somebody should tell them you don't make egg nog with boiled eggs. Marty Klanchar, Jim Moore, George Lesieutre, and Mark Traband were probably cutting into a cheese ball at their office party. I'm sure Ruth Mick was letting loose with some of her grad school buddies. And Nick Downs was tooting his own horn at his department party.

Bellefonte Christmas Light Run Print E-mail
Written by Denise Weaver

We had a great turnout for last night's Christmas light run.  Our runners were Santa Kim Gasper, Elf Tara Murray, Head Reindeer Blackie, Elf Christine Rice, Elf Bob Rice, Elf Erin Moore, Elf Brian Hayman and Elf Denise Weaver.

Head Reindeer Blackie led Santa and all of his elves wearing their jingle bells on a nice 3 1/2 - 4 mile run around a few of the back streets of Bellefonte.  Santa is proud of his little elves for doing such a SUPER job!  We saw a some pretty Christmas lights, but there will be more to view in the upcoming weeks before Christmas.

We are sad to say that two
elves lost their jingle bells along the way, but don't fret Santa will make sure that they get new jingle bells for the next  Christmas run Smile
