The Nittany Valley Running Club has two email listserves, a Facebook page, and a Twitter feed. We encourage Club Members who are active runners to join and participate in one or more of these. We also encourage others who are not members of the Nittany Valley Running Club, but who are interested in running in Central Pennsylvania to join one of the groups.
NOTE: You do not have to be a dues-paying member of the NVRC to join our listserve, but we encourage you to join the Club!

Get a Google, Yahoo and/or Facebook account to join any or all!
Our Main Listserve: Our main email listserve is now hosted through Google Groups. To join, get a gmail account if you don't already have a Gmail account, you have to get one. It's pretty much like getting any other internet service like Hotmail, etc. It's free. You answer a few questions and you're in. Once you have a Gmail account, while signed in to your account, go to https://groups.google.com/. From there, search for the group "Nittany Valley Running Club", or click the link for us in the top line of the table above. Then click "Apply for membership". Fill in your preferences. [NOTE: In the "Apply to join" form, please use the text box there ("message to the manager") to say something about yourself. It helps us to weed out spammers.] After the administrator approves you, you'll be in!
Our Other Listserves: Our Beginner Running Group hosted through Yahoo has been inactive for several years and has been discontinued. If we start up another beginner listserve, it will be through Google Groups. Interested beginners should join the Google Group "Nittany Vally Running Club" above.
If you would like to join the Yahoo Discussion Group "Ladies Creamery Running, go to the link in the right hand column of the table above and click "Join This Group". If you are already a Yahoo! member, a request will be sent to the group moderators to add you to the group. As soon as you are approved you will be able to join the fun. If you are not yet a Yahoo! member, you have to join. It's pretty much like getting any other internet service like Hotmail, etc. It's free. You answer a few questions and you're in. Then you send a request to join the desired group and you can join the fun.
Both Google Groups and Yahoo! Discussion Groups allow you to tailor your access to the group (and the group's access to you!). You can read or post messages via the group web page or by email. You can have the group email delivered to you immediately, or in daily summaries. You can specify different email accounts (other than your gmail or Yahoo account), from which you can post or receive Group email. You can post a detailed profile of yourself, including pictures, quotations, web links, etc., or you can remain anonymous. Once you are in, you can explore all the options.
[NOTE: Because the means of signing up for Club listserves are open to all, the Club listserves have many members, quite a few of whom are not personally known to the Group moderators. Group members should exercise discretion in their discussions, particularly regarding private or sensitive matters.]
The NVRC observes these listserve policies, violation of which can result in the violator being removed from the listserves:
Note about our old Yahoo Listserves: In early 2018, after 15 years of reasonably good service, the Club experienced numerous incidents of unreliable service from Yahoo in the administration of its main listserve hosted through Yahoo. The Yahoo Discussion Group "NVRC" had the highest volume among all the listserves, and a lot of its correspondece is time-sensitive. We experienced several days over the course of a few months when email was not pushed out to the group for 12 to 24 hours. This unreliable service was apparently widespread among Yahoo users globally.
In March 2018, we decided to move our main listserve to Google Groups, and to phase out our Wahoo Beginner Running Group listserve (an inactive listserve) until there was interest in reviving it. The Yahoo Listserves have been deleted. If you were a member of either of these Yahoo Groups and want to remain in touch with Club emails, you'll have to get a Gmail account and join the Google Group "Nittany Valley Running Club". See directions above. Our other listserve, the Ladies Early Morning Group is not going to move from Yahoo yet, though the adminstrator of this group may decide to do so in the future. You'll be notified if and when that happens!
