The officers agreed to donate $200 to Miles for Smiles an annual 46-hour treadmill running event, organized by the Penn State Club Cross Country Team. All proceeds support THON, which helps families affected by childhood cancer. At this event, club members run on a treadmill for hour or half-hour shifts, one after the other, for 46 hours total.

Jayson Jackson gave the members an exciting report on the Boalsburg Turkey Trot.There were over 600 registered with 30 no shows for that gobble, gobble morning run. The furthest runner came from Hawaii. The eldest runner was a young age of 89 and the youngest was only 5. There were $3500 donations which a portion went towards Saint Joseph (general public) and 10% went to the PA Military Museum. Next year the Turkey Trot will donate to the OLV school to help start up a cross country program.
Marty Klanchar shared this December 14th the club has organized three teams to compete in the USATF National Club Cross Country meet at Lehigh University. There are two women's teams; Women's Masters 40+ with Jamie Wright as the captain, Cheryl Keller Capone, Tara Murray, Meira Minard, Carly Shea and the women's open with Meghan Marshall as captain. The men's 60+ team captain is Marty Klanchar with Marvin Hall and Mark Hawkins. If you’re free they’d love for you to be there to cheer for the three teams!
The Indoor Mile Series dates are set. Saturday January 11th at 11:00 am, Friday January 31st at 4:00 pm and February 8th at 11:00 am. All details are on the NVRC website.
Katrina D’Anca spoke about Sunday’s 36th annual Nittany Valley Half Marathon. They are in desperate need for volunteers at water stop 4 and the finish line. You can sign up to volunteer at the Nittany Valley half marathon website. There’s a direct link to water stop 4 and the finish line. There are 716+ registered and 50% have asked for medals. If you didn’t ask for a medal you can go to the website and there’s a link to click “oops I forgot to add finishers medal”. Phoenix Rehab will be giving massages to runners after the race inside the Ag Arena. Don’t forget to head downtown after the race to pick up a free New Trail IPA beer at Bill Pickles on Allen Street.
The Christmas Themed Grouped Runs are still being worked out. As of now, Marty Mazur will hold his run Tuesday December 17 meeting at Hi-Way West, Wednesday December 18th Kim will hold the Pets come First run in Bellefonte, the Thursday Track Jingle Bell Jog will be on December 19 meeting at Rec Hall at 12:10 pm (this crew will run down to Rapid Transit to terrorize Terry!).Remember to dress up in your best or wildest festive gear for all of the Christmas themed group runs!
