Board Meeting

Club officers present: Bob Shafer (president), Dave Eggler (treasurer), Marty Mazur (communications director), Marty Klanchar (membership director), Erika Christiansen (secretary/archivist). Others present: Amy Blake, Jake Clements and family, Kevin Ermol and family.

The officers continued to discuss the NVRC outdoor track, Multi-Sport facility and Rec Hall Policies. Erika Christiansen and Marty Mazur will try and meet with Dayna Wenger, the MSF manager and Assistant Throws Coach. We all agreed that even Coach John Gondak doesn’t have answers but it is out of the athletic staff hands and being run by the President’s Council (the higher-ups).

Membership Meeting:

Club officers present: Bob Shafer (president), Dave Eggler (treasurer), Marty Mazur (communications director), Marty Klanchar (membership director), Erika Christiansen (secretary/archivist). Others present: Amy Blake, Jake Clements and family, Kevin Ermol and family, John Iceland, Dave DeGroote , Paula and Tom Jech, Kim Gasper.

The board continued to discuss with the club members their thoughts and suggestions about the Arts Fest Races. Jake Clements, Race Director, suggested we need more sponsors, have a stronger NVRC presence and switch the time of the kids race. The discussion about the low numbers of racers was a big topic. There were some photos taken by the Arts Fest staff and will be put online.

Katrina D’Anca, the Nittany Valley Half Marathon Race Director, received the NVRC banner from Jake Clements. Bob Shafer ran the new course with his marathon training crew and he said it was going to be a good one, but tough. Katrina shared with the members some updates that will be later revealed to the public. Last year’s race medals will be donated to the Hershey Children’s Hospital.

Kim Casper shared with the group the Herbie’s Home “Town Loop” will be held on Saturday August 12th in conjunction with the Bellefonte Arts and Craft Fair. Funds raised will benefit the Bellefonte High School’s Agricultural program, their school/community garden and a local family in need. The race ends at Talleyrand park where there will be a raffle for a bike.

Paula Jech said she had race results from the late 60’s and 70’s that will be given to the club and will be archived.

Erika Christiansen suggested that the club reciprocate a run when Pittsburg plays Penn State at home on September 9th. Marty Klanchar will send an invite to the Steel City Road Running Club to anyone who will be in town for the game to join the NVRC for an 8 miler and or a smaller run. Erika will extend an invite to the River Runners (Harrisburg area) who will be attending the game to join the group run as well. The run will start at 8:30 am at Sunset Park, through the Toftrees Trail, back up through the Arboretum, through the tailgates and end at the Creamery. Marty Kanchar will lead the 8 miler, but there will be some of our regular runners who will be running marathons and out of town. Marty will need some other runners to help with the shorter route and pacing. Please let Marty Klanchar know if you would be able to help. Information will be posted on various social media platforms and our email listserve. Erika will be waiting at the finish with banners and some possible give a ways. This is a great way to bring more awareness to the club and show off our beautiful running paths in Central PA!
