Minutes of the June 6th 2017 Meeting of the NVRC
Club officers present: Bob Shafer (president); Dave Eggler (treasurer), Marty Mazur (communications director), Marty Klanchar (membership director), Erika Christiansen (secretary / archivist). Other present: Jake and Sarah Clements, Cheryl Keller Capone and Dean Capone.
The officers discussed with Jake Clements the final approval from the University Police on the Arts Festival Race Course. Dave Eggler suggested that Penn Dot will need to be aware of the course and mentioned the contact at Penn Dot. Currently there are 18 registered for the 10 miler.
The officers continued to discuss the access to the Penn State Outdoor Track and don’t have a resolution.
The officers approved the Sponorship Grant request for the NT&F youth club and the donation to The TUSSEY mOUnTaiNBACK relay and ultramarathon.

Cheryl Keller Capone (PhD, NASM-CPT) gave a wrap up on the NVRC Running Workshop "Run Healthy, Run Strong" that she and Christine Doorman (USTAF Level 1) lead during a 4 week period at Tudek Park. The workshop was a success. They had positive and constructive feedback. Stay tuned, there is discussion of another running workshop in the future.
Mike Casper brought the NVRC banner to hand over to Jake Clements to use for the Arts Festival Race.
Give ‘Em 5! Run for Veternans a NVRC Race is on October 29, 2017. This race is dedicated to honoring the sacrifices and commitments of our community's brave veterans. Funds raised from this race will be made available to veterans in need of financial assistance through the Veterans Assistance Fund. Registration is open at www.imathlete.com/events/GiveEm5
Fibonacci 4K is a new running event which benefits Discovery Space and KidTech (two local STEM-focused non-profits).This will be held on the grounds of the Boalsburg Military Museum July 8, 2017. Flyers were passed out to the guest tables during the club meeting for guests to take home. Paper entry forms are available at Rapid Transit and Discovery Space. Katrina D’Anca discussed the newly modified Nittany Valley Half-Marathon course. Registration fee is $35.00 by November 2, and $45.00 after. Add $10.00 for the optional finisher’s medal. All NVRC members will have $2.00 off the registration fee. Mail-in, online registration and requests for volunteers will be coming soon.
The attendance was small but those who attended enjoyed pizza, beer and discussions about group runs out at Rothrock, State Game Lands and Lower Trail. This lead to conversations about snakes and safety running on trails this summer. Thank you Cheryl Keller Capone for coming out with your family on your birthday!
