Name:  Marty Mazur
EMAIL ADDRESS:   mxm14@psu.edu

BIRTH DATE:
March 19, 1957
HOMETOWN (ORIGINALLY):
Buffalo, NY
WHERE I LIVE NOW:
State College, PA
WHAT I DO IN LIFE AS WE KNOW IT: Research Engineer at
Penn State's Applied  Research Laboratory
NON-RUNNING HOBBIES OR INTERESTS: Being a Dad (see nickname below).
Reading,  games, music, playing guitar and blues harmonica, photography, language.
A FAVORITE BOOK, MOVIE, TV OR RADIO SHOW: Dante's Divine Comedy, Babette’s Feast, ESPN  Cheerleader competitions, the G. Gordon Liddy Show.
IF I COULD PICK MY OWN NICKNAME: Somehow the Thursday Track people started calling me Bwana. Maybe it was because my wife Bwanita already called me that. (Language note (see hobbies):  Bwana means "master" in Swahili and is descended from the Arabic "Abuna", meaning "father" or "Dad". The Arabs were traders (and slavers) along  the coast of
East Africa, and Swahili is a Bantu language that became a "lingua  franca" in East Africa. Since I am the "master" of the Thursday Track  Crew, and am a father-figure to some of them and a slave driver to others,  I think "Bwana" is an apt appellation.)
I STARTED RUNNING (WHEN, WHERE, HOW...): In high school, I ran the quarter-mile.  I hated distance running. I started that in college to keep my beer gut  in line and have been doing it off and on for over 20 years.
AVERAGE MILES PER WEEK: 25+
A TYPICAL TRAINING WEEK: One longish weekend run (6-12 miles), one track workout, and two or three 4-6 mile lunchtime runs at a pace that varies with  the conditions and who I'm running with.
PREFERRED RACE OR RACING DISTANCE: Oddball medium distances on unusual courses, e.g. Egg Hill 10 Miler, Tussey mOUnTaiNBACK. Plus, I have to try to get in a track mile under 6 minutes once a year. Man, that's starting to get tough!
NUMBER OF RACES PER YEAR: 8 or so.
A GOOD 10K TIME FOR ME WOULD BE: I only run one about every few years, but a good  time would about 46 minutes. I can do a 5K in 21 and change. A lot of change.
WHY I RUN: Believe it or not, it's still the beer-gut suppression
PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPISED TO LEARN THAT: There are things that I'm even more fanatical about than running!
FAVORITE SCOTCH: NOT Dewar's, but Macallan. 18 Year when I can afford it.
