NAME: Jim Moore
E-MAIL ADDRESS: j5m@psu.edu
BIRTH-DATE: Nov. 1, 1960
HOMETOWN (ORIGINALLY): DuBois, PA
WHERE I LIVE NOW: State College
WHAT I DO IN LIFE AS WE KNOW IT: Engineering at Applied Research
Lab - PSU
NON-RUNNING HOBBIES OR INTERESTS: Skiing, Volleyball
A FAVORITE BOOK, MOVIE, TV OR RADIO SHOW: Kratt's Creatures -- I only
seem to watch TV shows (other than sports) with my kids.
IF I COULD CHOOSE MY OWN NICKNAME OR EPITAPH: How about Mike D's epitaph:
"You can't choose your own nickname"
I STARTED RUNNING (WHEN, WHERE, HOW...): In 1984, My uncle challenged
everyone in the extended family to run a local race (Brockway Firecracker
10K) during that year's Moore family reunion. It was good timing,
as my dad's generation was in late 40's/early 50's and the "kids" were
teenagers-to-23 (me). I think 7 or 8 of us took him up on the
challenge and a few even won age groups (but not me).
AVERAGE MILES PER WEEK: 30 in summer, 20 or so in winter
A TYPICAL TRAINING WEEK: 5-6 mile lunchtime runs during the week
w/ a track workout on Thursday and a longer (7-8 mile) weekend run.
PREFERRED RACE OR RACING DISTANCE: 10k
NUMBER OF RACES PER YEAR: 4-5
A GOOD 10K TIME FOR ME WOULD BE: Anything under 40 minutes
WHY I RUN: Stress relief, general health, chance to socialize.
PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT: One of my non-running
relatives claims that my great-grandfather (whom I never met) told
him that the Moores have always been good runners because we have unusually
large calf-muscles.
