walk around the yard with old track spikes to aerate the soil), dream about

IF I COULD CHOOSE MY OWN NICKNAME OR EPITAPH: Greg, but Bwana is developing

I STARTED RUNNING (WHEN, WHERE, HOW...): 9th grade as a pole vaulter
and "sprinter"; the longest distance in the old days for junior high was
the 880 yards in one meet
AVERAGE MILES PER WEEK: 30 (when the old body permits)
A TYPICAL TRAINING WEEK: 5 miles a day (always); Thursday at the track
with Bwana!
PREFERRED RACE OR RACING DISTANCE: I no longer race but, the distance
from the sofa to the frig is 30 feet
NUMBER OF RACES PER YEAR: 0
A GOOD 10K TIME FOR ME WOULD BE: Since I do not race ...
WHY I RUN: I have always enjoyed it; it is a good social time as well;
what else would I do at lunch, eat(?) and I run at the track Thursdays
to get Bwana's email!
PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT: I have a life outside of work
(editor's addition, with apologies to Greg. I don't usually
edit these things, but: Greg is a former American record holder in the
10,000 meters, 1980 Olympic team member, U.S. cross-country national champion,
and sub-4:00 miler... check out the September 1999 Runner's World Online
interview.
He's one of the most accomplished local athletes, and probably holds
the record for modesty.)
