NAME: Bill Bahnfleth
E-MAIL ADDRESS: wbahnfleth@psu.edu

BIRTH-DATE: 5/31/57
HOMETOWN (ORIGINALLY): Born in Urbana, IL but moved to Downers Grove in the Chicago suburbs before age two and grew up there.
WHERE I LIVE NOW: State College
WHAT I DO IN LIFE AS WE KNOW IT: I'm a mechanical engineer.  Faculty member in the PSU Department of Architectural Engineering.
NON-RUNNING HOBBIES OR INTERESTS: Music, reading, family
A FAVORITE BOOK, MOVIE, TV OR RADIO SHOW: Book-Blood of the Lamb by Peter DeVries  Movie-Blue Velvet  Radio-This American Life (NPR)
NICKNAME (AND WHY): As a youth: Flash--impetuosity (full moon rising...) and XC sensibility combine with hilarious results.  Also easier to pronounce than Bahnfleth.
IF I COULD WRITE MY OWN EPITAPH: Are we there yet?
I STARTED RUNNING (WHEN, WHERE, HOW...): Junior HS, about 1970.  I went out for track in seventh grade because I didn't make the basketball team and track had a no-cut policy.  After failing to blossom as a shot putter, I switched to the 440 because nobody else would run it and my cousin was the state record holder.  The next year I moved up to 880, had some success and was hooked.
AVERAGE MILES PER WEEK:  On hiatus for the past several years due first to injuries and subsequently to associated weight gain.  Currently injury free and concentrating on bicycling (road only) for my exercise, but still dreaming of another semi-comeback (more like one more loop in the downward spiral at my age).
A TYPICAL TRAINING WEEK: 100 - 150 miles bicycling, weights when I get around to it, an occasional 3 - 5 mile jog when I'm nostalgic and don't have the time to get out the carbon fiber horse.  Won't be running regularly again until/unless I drop quite a few pounds and remain clear of injuries.
PREFERRED RACE OR RACING DISTANCE: Have run and enjoyed everything from 880 yds through marathon.  Not racing these days, but planning to do some long bike tours.  My last two foot races were a 4:59 mile in 2001 at a PSU summer track meet and Reach the Beach 200 mile relay the same year (sixth overall/4th in men's open in 22:01:04 on a team that included local yokel Mike Casper).
NUMBER OF RACES PER YEAR: That would be about...zero.
A GOOD 10K TIME FOR ME WOULD BE: 15 minutes--on my bike, on a flat stretch, maybe with a little tail wind.
WHY I RUN: I am an endurance addict.
PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO LEARN THAT: I have a degree in music and occasionally find time to play an organ recital.
FAVORITE SCOTCH: Gin - Bombay Sapphire, in a very dry martini, straight up, with a twist.
