Wins First Big 10 Challenge 5K! by

Valley Running
Club has won the Big 10 Challenge against NVRC President Jerry Steffy's
old running club, the Mid-Michigan Track Club. It was a close run
thing. The rules
stipulated that each Club would choose a similar 5K on that weekend,
compare the times of the top 4 male and top 3 female members of each
club, and score those runners cross-country style. The NVRC chose to
support the Jingle Bell 5K Run and 1
Mile Walk For Arthritis, held on November 10. Uncharacteristically, our
ladies almost let us down. Only Tara Murray
signed up for the Challenge before-hand. After the race was done, we
frantically searched through the results for two more female Club
members who had run the race but perhaps not heard about the Challenge.
Luckily, there were two (and only two!) Thanks to Jessica Vandervolk
and Leslie Dutchcot, who are probably only finding out now that they
helped us win the Challenge!
Despite the fact that MMTC went with "an expanded interpretation of
the rules", and submitted club members' results from several races that
weekend, the NVRC prevailed. Here are the results:
